FAQs

Can a gaming PC work in ElectroCool?

Would the RGB LEDs in the computer components continue to work when submerged in ElectroCool and not degrade?

All LEDs can be safely immersed in our ElectroCool Dielectric Coolants with no harmful effects. Your LEDs will work just fine!

Do I still have to install a heatsink on the CPU and GPU chips?

Yes, we recommend that you use a heatsink for CPUs and GPUs, however you do need to replace the TIM material before immersing, you can view our FAQ here to see more information on the types of TIM to use with our coolants.

Are there any optically clear commercially available pipes/tubes that do not degrade with ElectoCool for the cooling radiator loop?
We use Versilon A-120 tubing for many of our applications its available in many different sizes and is clear.

I live in a high humidity region, is ElectroCool hydrophilic, where it can absorb enough moisture to be conductive? Do I have to have a hermetically sealed system?

ElectroCool is extremely hydrophobic and will absorb very little moisture from the surrounding environment. We have many users in humid environments using unsealed tanks. If you wish to completely eliminate any humidity you can certainly seal the system to stop dust and moisture from entering.

Can you immerse the PSU in ElectroCool as well as the Motherboard, CPU, and GPU's?

Yes, you can immerse the standard Bitmain PSUs, and most PSUs, in our BitCool and ElectroCool Dielectric Coolants and they will operate flawlessly, even the fans that internal to the PSUs will operate just fine in our coolant..

The only draw back is that most of the PSUs are fairly efficient (92-97% efficient) so the volume of Coolant they take up in the tank is often more expensive than the cooling requirements they require. So unless you need them to be completely silent we recommend that you weigh the advantages of cooling them in coolant vs the cost of the coolant required. Keep in mind that if you do not immerse the PSUs then you will require some type of comfort cooling in your environment to dissipate the heat from the PSUs.

What types of connectors do you recommend to use when sealing systems and what materials for gaskets and O-rings when using ElectroCool? What materials should we specify for gaskets and O-Rings?

a) Bulkhead fittings that require solid square O-Rings
Bulkhead fittings work well if you have a very smooth tank surface for the O-Ring to seat against, and you’ve prepared the surface properly as any dirt or imperfections will lead to the O-Ring leaking. Also be sure to watch how much torsion you apply to these types of fitting with unsupported pipe, or you will deform the side of your tank and create a leak.

b) ANSI & DIN Flanges
We love flanges, they are easy to work with, seal very well, are easy to take apart and give you the ability to slide a pipe or piece of equipment into the pipe without having to move the pipe. We use these extensively with pumps and dry cooler connections. Above 2″ pipe we recommend always using flange connections with a FKM gasket or O-Ring.

c) NPTF / BSPT Tapered Threaded Connections
These are common both domestically and internationally. Threaded connections without an O-Ring are always a challenge to seal well, both these are tapered connections, so the Male and Female are both tapered. These connections seal through the compression caused by thread deformation as the two pieces mate. These types of connections can be difficult to seal properly so we always recommend using a PTFE pipe dope to provide a proper seal or for smaller connections we recommend using PTFE sealing tape.

d) SAE Straight Thread O-Ring (O-Ring Boss) connections
These are great connections and easy to use, again just specify FKM O-Rings. They provide one of the cleanest and easy to use profiles for a threaded seal connection.

e) JIC 37° Flare (SAE J514) connections and SAE 45° Flare (SAE J512) connections
These work very well, but they tend to be bigger connectors for their size and expensive. They seal well and are often used in high pressure hydraulic applications and systems.

f) O-Ring Face Seal (SAE J1453) connections
These work very well, but they tend to be available only in smaller sizes and are designed for very high-pressure hydraulic systems. They are overkill for most SLIC immersion cooling solutions.
