Open Compute 2018 - Liquid Immersion Cooling

Updated: Apr 18, 2018

I had the chance to present on Wednesday April 21, 2018 at the Open Compute Project - US Summit 2018 and to share the stage with a great partner and friend Darwin Kauffman, President and CEO of Liquid Cool Solutions. Darwin and I jointly gave a presentation on the benefits and opportunities of using single-phase, full liquid immersion cooling for next generation datacenters. Check out this Video of the presentation as published by OCP.

Our presentation was the only single-phase cooling discussion on the agenda, everyone else was talking about two-phase cooling. What I found interesting is that the single biggest issue that all the other speakers brought up in reference to two-phase cooling was the material compatibility issues of two-phase coolants. In addition, they mentioned the complexity of dealing with high pressure systems and evaporation of coolants. You'll see in the video I discuss these issues directly as well as answer questions from the audience. Overall, it was great to see the level of interest in full immersion cooling and even better to see the amount of traffic we've received from new customers (including a lot of formerly dedicated two-phase coolant users) following the show! Single-phase, immersion cooling is an easy and straightforward way to solve the major cooling issues people are facing both for cryptocurrency mining and high powered compute. Thanks again Darwin for the chance to share the stage!
